Welcome at Dutch Police Union ACP

The Police Union ACP was established in 1971. Nowadays the ACP is a member of the CNV (see below) and works to protect the rights, interests and welfare of its almost 23,000 members. This is virtually half of the police population of the Netherlands.

The ACP unites various groups of employees. However – our goal is always the same. Whether in a collective way towards the minister of Internal Affairs (employer), or in an individual way when one of our members can use our support in -for example- legal questions. Our motto is “Met elkaar – voor elkaar” (together we make it work).

Member of an independent organisation
The Police Union ACP is a member of the National Federation of Christian Trade Unions in the Netherlands (CNV). The CNV is a trade union federation with a membership of over 340,000. The organisation is completely independent of governmental or political groups, and is open for everybody to join. The CNV can be proud of broad grassroots support, spread throughout the Netherlands. Eleven trade unions are affiliated to the CNV working in various sectors (such as manufacturing industry, transport, police, service industries, the public sector, education, health care). The CNV unions guard and advocate employees’ rights in matters related to collective labour agreements, social security, and pensions.

Solidarity across the border
As a Christian trade union movement the CNV operates in an international context. And as a member of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), the CNV promotes a Europe that is more democratic and socially aware. The CNV is actively involved in the activities of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The Police Union ACP at this moment supports colleague police officers in Eastern Europe. There are good connections with our sister trade union of the police in Romenia. The focus of this solidarity is to help them build their organisation and to  support them in their training activities.

Trade Council Police of Eurofedop
A united Europe, which also has opened its borders to both Central and Eastern Europe, has to deal with  problems of border-crossing criminality, a rapidly increasing flow of refugees and an intensity of form of extremism.

European integration can not be stopped, so the establishment of European cooperation between various nationalities of police services has become a necessity. In order to meet this requirement The Dutch Police Union ACP is a participant in the Trade Council of Eurofedop (link www.eurofedop.org/about/aboutfsne.html)

Due to the work of Eurofedop, exchange and cooperation programmes have been set up between various countries. A great number of subjects have been dealt with and require permanent attention in the future: women in the police service, working conditions, recruitment of foreigners in the police service,  the police, the media and society, uniform techniques and police investigations. European cooperation will evidently become more and more important in the future.
